Many of us have been affected by the service outages at Intuit within the last month. Although this has not been a pleasurable series of events, I also believe there are 2 ways to look at this situation. Many people are choosing to negatively attack Intuit, including many of my colleagues. I on the other hand realize Intuit did not maliciously cause these outages and that they are working hard to correct them and prevent them in the future. Since I started Quality Consulting and Billing in 1997, I have found many clients have had similar events happen to their businesses and they did not have a disaster recovery plan. So this is a lesson to all businesses that there will always be events that happen, some much larger than others. Instead of pointing the finger at Intuit, let's all take a look at our disaster recovery plans and make sure we know what to do in an emergency.
We are here to help you do that. We have consulted with many clients about ways to make sure they know what to do it in case of events such as:
- Loss of staff
- Loss of power
- Loss of computer systems/hard drive failure
- Loss of internet
- Storm Damage
- Evacuations
- Fire
- Theft
These are just a few examples of things that can happen and most likely will in the life of your business. It is how prepared you are to handle these events that determines the success of your recovery plan. If you would like to take advantage of Intuit’s lesson, please schedule a consultation with us to assist you in preparing your disaster recovery plan. |
